Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between lower urinary tract symptoms and incontinence quality of life among middle-aged and elderly women in the community.

Methods: Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires from April 2011 to December 2012. Total 168 subjects were participated in the survey. Lower urinary tract symptoms were assessed using The Bristol Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Questionnaire(LUTS). Quality of life was measured by Incontinence Quality of Life(IQOL).

Results: There were significant differences in lower urinary tract symptoms by marital status, bladder disease and regular exercise. Lower urinary tract symptoms was negatively related to incontinence quality of life.

Conclusion: This results indicate that health care providers should pay attention to urinary symptoms of middle-aged and elderly women and develop health education program.
